Five Things to do In Highlands, New Jersey

Have you discovered Highlands, New Jersey? It's a great town at the northern end of the Jersey Shore. Walk to the ocean beach from the southernmost part of town or visit one of the free bay beaches right in town. Here are five things that you can do in Highlands. All of these are free so it's easy to have a full day on a budget.

Visit Hartshorne Woods Park

Highlands has an abundance of recreation activities that are available all year round. Hartshorne Woods Park is a county park that is free to visit. Just head up Portland road and you'll find generous free parking and lots of great trails for hiking or biking. Some are paved for an easy walk. 

See Popamora Point

Popamora Point is part of the Henry Hudson Trail and can be accessed right from Highlands. Head to the end of Shore Drive and enjoy a walk along the bay. 

Go to the Beach - for Free!

There are a number of options for beaches in Highlands. First, Highlands has two seasonally guarded beaches right in town on the bay. These are located at the Community Center and at the end of Miller street. If the ocean is more your style, simply walk over the bridge and head to Sandy Hook or what is known as Highlands Beach. Just be aware that some of the beaches are unguarded. 

Shop the Farmer's Market

Highlands has a weekly farmer's market in season at Huddy Park. There are endless finds available. It's a great hit for a summer morning. 

Stroll the Boardwalk at Veteran's Park

Veteran's Park on Bay avenue has a short boardwalk with impressive views. It's a serene location for reflection or exercise.
